The brief is a passion project of mine. I wanted to create a collection of album artwork for electronic albums and singles. Representing a range of moods and styles in eye-catching designs. I wanted the artwork to appeal to the dance music demographic.

Solution

As this is a personal project, it’s allowed for a degree of experimentation that isn’t accessible in paid positions with strict brand guidelines or timeframes. Using the full Creative Cloud software, Midjourney, Figma, and even analogue methods like painting and sketching to generate outputs.

The dance music sub-genre would help dictate the style I would experiment with; for example, heavy drum and bass tracks would include photomanipulation and glitch effects. Ambient styles incorporated organic elements into the final artwork, representing the sounds heard within the music. Psybient styles have drip painting that has been replicated into intricate patterns, matching the psychedelic elements of this genre.

It’s an ongoing project with some covers being more successful than others. But as the library continues to expand and new techniques are explored. It has given me confidence and knowledge on what new techniques to use and what to avoid when solving creative problems in corporate roles.
